In this portrait, light coming through the hole in Marble’s ear is a stark reminder of the fact that he was born with a number instead of a name, intended to be eaten and forgotten. How many children would never have overcome trauma and pain had Marble been killed instead of saved? This portrait forces all of us to ask the question: are we slaughtering and eating the very people we need to save humanity from ourselves?

Cap’n Marble, the Marvelously Unsheepish Sheep, was the smallest of a set of triplets and his birth mom knew she could not care for all 3 babies. She pushed Marble away and he had to be raised by people working at the farm. Once he was weaned from his bottle, they had fallen in love with him and wished for him to live a life of freedom rather than be processed for meat. Marble and Rupert the cow were best friends while they both grew up at the sanctuary. Today, Marble plays a key role in Indraloka’s Hopeful Heroes initiative, wherein he works with children that have been traumatized, offering them unconditional love, listening to their worries, dreams, and heatbreaks, and always, always offering a soft, snuggly shoulder to cry on. Marble, deeply grounded and profoundly loving, has saved many human lives through simy being himself and offering his love in a world that doesn’t provide nearly enough of that to children in need.
